From the very first day, Hachikō and the professor became inseparable. The puppy followed him everywhere—through the quiet streets, the bustling markets, and even to the local train station. Every morning, Hachikō would trot alongside the professor, watching him climb onto the train that would take him to the University of Tokyo. Every evening, without fail, Hachikō would wait. He would sit patiently on the station platform, eyes fixed on the train tracks, ears perked for the familiar footsteps of his beloved master. Rain, snow, or scorching sun—nothing could shake him.
But one day, the routine changed forever. In May 1925, Professor Ueno suffered a sudden illness at work and passed away. He never returned to the station. Hachikō didn’t understand. The man he loved had vanished, yet the faithful dog kept returning. Day after day, he waited. Commuters began to notice him—a small, loyal figure sitting quietly at Shibuya Station, scanning every face in the crowd, hoping to see Professor Ueno emerge from the train doors.
