My Neighbor Refused to Pay Me $250 After I Spent Two Days Cleaning Her House As We Discussed – So I Gave Her a Harsh Lesson

Although it is said that neighbors can either become friends or enemies, I never expected that my neighbors would become both in a single day. What started off as a straightforward favor turned into a furious argument and a bizarre turn of events that left both of us speechless.

When my husband, Caleb, left me six years ago, I never imagined that I would be standing in the kitchen, scrubbing the same counter over and over again, wondering how things could have become so disorganized without him.

Lila, I am 48 years old, a mother of two, and I am currently working from home for a support hotline. I am attempting to keep everything in order. Life did not go the way I had hoped it would.

Do you know that Caleb and I used to fantasize about our future together? This is the kind of home that we would make together. The reality is that those dreams did not come true, and I was left to handle everything on my own.

I was left on my alone with our son Jude, who was eight years old at the time, and our daughter Ivy, who was a newborn. He left one night, claiming that he needed “time to find himself.” Given that he never came back, I suppose he discovered something greater than time.

“Mom, would you mind if I had some cereal?” I was jolted out of my thoughts by the gentle tone of Ivy’s voice. From her seat on the kitchen chair, her large brown eyes, which were so brimming with innocence, glanced up at me.

“Of course, my sweetheart. Only a brief moment.” I mustered up a smile and reached for the cereal that was sitting on the shelf.

As is his custom, Jude, who is now 14 years old, stepped in with his earbuds in. He did not even look up once. “Are you sure you’re going to see Liam?” he murmured.

“Don’t stay out past your bedtime. I tried to get his attention by calling out, “And finish your homework when you’re back,” but he had already left the house.

Since Caleb had left, I had been patching together my life, and this was just another ordinary day in that process. It wasn’t simple for me to raise two children and pay the expenses by myself.

It was helpful that I had a job in a call center, but it wasn’t exactly what I had envisioned myself doing. Even yet, a job is a job, and that was the only thing that mattered.

When Sadie, our new neighbor who is in her early 30s, started knocking on my door, I was surprised. It seemed as though she hadn’t slept in days because her eyes were puffy.

I’d want to ask you a very important favor, Lila. It was a shaky and thin voice that she spoke with.

Following my nod, I moved to the side. Undoubtedly, Sadie, it is. What is the matter?

She heaved a sigh and dove into the couch, appearing as though she was about to pass out. The night before, I was in charge of throwing a large party, and now I’ve been summoned away to work. The location is a complete mess, and I do not have the time to clean it up. Oh, would you be able to assist me? I vow that I will pay for it.

I waited a moment to look at the time. My shift was scheduled to begin in a few hours, but the prospect of earning additional money was irresistible. We would be very grateful for it.

To what extent are we going to talk? As I had my arms crossed, I inquired.

Quickly, she spoke the word “two-fifty.” To Lila, I beg you. I would not inquire if it were not an important matter.

“All right,” I responded after a brief pause. “I’ll take care of it.”

“I am grateful to you! You are a savior of my life! After giving me a short hug and rushing out of the room, Sadie left me wondering what I had signed up for exactly.

To say that Sadie’s home was a mishmash would be an understatement. It appeared as though a storm had struck, since there were trash cans, filthy dishes, and rubbish everywhere.

While I stood there with my hands on my hips, I was trying to figure out how to begin.

There are two days. This is the amount of time that I needed to spend cleaning her entire house, including sweeping, scouring, and throwing away waste. My hands were raw, and my back was hurting by the time it was over. But I couldn’t stop thinking about the $250 that she had promised. Having that amount of money would be significant.

Immediately after Sadie’s return, I went to her residence, prepared to retrieve the items.

“Sadie, the game is over. In an attempt to conceal my tiredness, I responded, “Your house is immaculate.” “So, with regard to that payment…”

She looked at me as if I were speaking in unintelligible language. Are you paid? What kind of payment?”

My eyes blinked, and I felt a shiver travel through my body. The two hundred and fifty dollars that you promised to pay me to clean your house. Keep in mind?”

As her expression changed, she went from being confused to irritated. “Lila, I never promised that I would send you any money. You must be making a mistake.

I stood there, completely dazed. “You… what are you? Having made a vow to pay me! A deal was reached between us.

She snapped, “No, we didn’t,” in response. “Listen, I’m running behind schedule for work, and I simply do not have the time to deal with this.” In the direction of her vehicle, she sped by me.

The words “Sadie, this isn’t fair!” Although I yelled at her, she had already left the driveway by the time I heard her.

There I stood, shaking with rage as I stood there. So how was she able to do that?

After putting in a lot of effort for two days, she abruptly dropped me. Despite the fact that my blood was boiling, I was aware that I needed to maintain my composure.

After arriving at my house, I slammed the door and stormed around the living room. While Ivy was occupied with her toys, Jude was still absent from the room. Despite the fact that I didn’t want to involve them in this situation, I knew that I couldn’t let Sadie get away with it.

I said to myself, “Alright, Lila, think smart,” and I listened intently. After taking a look at Sadie’s residence, I immediately began formulating a strategy. Although I didn’t care, it was a brave move. If she wanted to engage in rough play, I could do the same.

A quarter of an hour later, I found myself at the neighborhood dump, where I quickly retrieved an old pair of gloves from the trunk. Although I was not pleased with what I was doing, I was exhausted by it.

The trunk of my car was stuffed with as many trash bags as it could possibly hold. Despite the fact that the odor was awful, I continued on.

On my drive back, I couldn’t stop thinking about her arrogant demeanor and the lies she told. With each new thought that I had, I felt more and more justified.

Neither my time nor my efforts were respected by her. To put it simply, she was about to be taught a lesson.

I pulled up to her house, and the street was completely silent as I arrived. I started unpacking the packages after opening the trunk of the vehicle. My excitement was propelling me ahead, and my heart was racing.

It was then that I recalled something: Sadie had neglected to return the house key that she had taken. In her haste to leave, she didn’t even bother to ask for it before she departed.

It was only for a brief moment that I halted. I was thinking about her words and the negative tone she used. I wasn’t going to let this go of me.

I gave the door a push and then entered the room. The place was still gleaming, but it wouldn’t be for much longer. I proceeded to empty the garbage bags one by one, placing them on the floors, the counters, and even the bed. Food that had gone bad, old wrappers, and even diapers were all disgusting.

In a low voice, I muttered, “This is for you, Sadie,” as I tossed the last bag. “This was started by you.”

I strolled back to my vehicle, locked the door, and put the key under her mat before locking it firmly. I was experiencing a beating in my heart, but a part of me felt… content.

Later on that day, as I was putting Ivy to bed, I became aware of a loud hammering sound coming from the front door. I was aware of who it was.

“Lila! ” What in the name of Jesus Christ did you do to my home? With a face flushed with anger, Sadie yelled.

As cool as ever, I leaned at the doorway with my arms crossed and my back straight. It’s clear that Sadie has no idea what she’s talking about. Do you remember that I never had a key? And we never reached an agreement.”

At first, she was stunned, and then she became enraged. You—you are telling a lie! I’m going to call the police! A price will be paid for this!

I gave a shrug. “You should call them. However, if you believe that I never had the key, how are you going to explain how I was able to enter the building?

Although she opened her mouth, she did not produce any sound. She whirled around and went off in a rage.

Even though my heart was still beating fast, I watched her leave. This time, however, it wasn’t simply anger; it was justice.

She might give the authorities a call. I don’t know. On the other hand, Sadie had picked up a valuable lesson: she should never cross Lila.

Taking a deep breath and closing the door, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. Certainly, I had breached a boundary; yet, there are occasions when standing up for yourself requires you to get your hands filthy.

Is that Sadie? Indeed, I seriously doubt that she will be coming back to my house in the near future.
