Mariah Carey was told her sister Alison “was dying” a month ago but never called her, claims friend
An immense tragedy struck Mariah Carey last weekend when the singer lost both her mother and sister on the same day.
The iconic artist confirmed the news with a heartbreaking social media post that read: “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend.
“Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
Needless to say, experiencing such profound loss is a virtually incomparable experience, though Carey had complicated relationships with both her mother, Patricia Carey, and sister, Alison Carey, throughout much of her life.
While Carey herself confirmed that she had spent time with her mother during the last week of her life, her sister Alison was another matter. The two siblings had long been estranged, with Mariah accusing her sister of physical and psychological abuse when the pair were younger.
Whereas Mariah found fame thanks to her unique voice, quickly climbing the rungs of stardom to become one of the most widely-known and popular artists in the world, Alison’s life was plagued by ill-health and questionable decisions.
The two sisters endured years of turmoil, with Alison – who was HIV positive and battled drug addiction – making a plea to Mariah in 2016, begging her to mend the rift between them.

In 2020 the wedge between the sisters was driven deeper when Alison filed a lawsuit to the tune of $1.25 million against her younger sibling. The lawsuit stemmed from allegations made in Mariah’s memoir wherein she claimed that Alison had drugged her at the age of 12, as well as inflicted third-degree burns.
Sadly, Mariah and Alison remained at odds with one another until the latter’s death, with it now claimed by one of Alison’s friends, David Baker, that Mariah had known her sister was dying and refused to contact her.
According to Baker, Mariah made no attempt to reach out to Alison despite having been informed that she was dying a month ago.
“Alison was unhappy that her ‘baby sister’ had cut off contact with her,” David revealed in an interview with The Sun.
“She talked about it frequently. She wondered if Mariah or any of her relatives would come to her funeral.”
He continued: “Mariah has never tried to contact Alison, even after she was told a month ago that Alison was dying” adding that “a phone call or a video call from Mariah would have meant so much to Alison.”
Our thoughts are with Mariah Carey at this time. To lose both your mother and sister on the same day is simply unimaginable.
