Hayden Panettiere was very outspoken about her struggles with alcohol and opioid addiction. In an interview with People Magazine in 2022, she said that her addiction spiraled “out of control” to the point where she “couldn’t live without” substances

Also, she recalled how at 15, she had been offered “happy pills” to keep a good mood while walking red carpets.

“They were to make me peppy during interviews,” she told People. “I had no idea that this was not an appropriate thing, or what door that would open for me when it came to my addiction.”

As Hayden’s career really took off, she kept drinking heavily. Moreover, she also revealed she, on occasion, took opioids.

“My saving grace is that I couldn’t be messy while on set and working,” Panettiere said. “But things kept getting out of control [off set]. And as I got older, the drugs and alcohol became something I almost couldn’t live without.”

Rest in peace, Hayden Panettiere
