Reflections on a Popular Singer from the ’60s

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Sandy Posey, the beloved 1960s singer, at the age of 80.

She passed away peacefully at her home in Tennessee, surrounded by her partner, Wade Cummins. Born in Jasper, Alabama, Sandy’s musical career began in Memphis, where she gained fame as a session singer.

Her hit “Born a Woman” reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966, earning her a Grammy nomination.

Sandy’s hits like “Single Girl” and “What a Woman in Love Won’t Do” masterfully blended pop and country. She also lent her soulful voice to back stars such as Elvis Presley and Percy Sledge.

Her music and legacy continue to inspire. Rest in peace, Sandy.
