Reflections on a Popular Singer from the ’60s
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Sandy Posey, the cherished 1960s singer, at the age of 80. She passed away peacefully at her Tennessee home, surrounded by her partner, Wade Cummins.
Born in Jasper, Alabama, Sandy’s musical career began in Memphis, where she gained fame as a session singer. Her hit “Born a Woman” reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966, earning her a Grammy nomination. Sandy’s other hits, such as “Single Girl” and “What a Woman in Love Won’t Do,” seamlessly blended pop and country.
She also lent her soulful voice to back stars like Elvis Presley and Percy Sledge. Her music continues to inspire and resonate with many. Rest in peace, Sandy.
Sandy Posey’s legacy lives on, and her contributions to music will always be remembered.
