When I lived in Portugal I would buy one of these from the grocery store every week
This chocolate “salami” recipe is a fun and delicious treat that’s perfect for parties or holidays. It’s made with crushed cookies, toasted walnuts, and a rich chocolate mixture, and it’s surprisingly easy to prepare.
Ingredients:
Ingredient | Quantity |
---|---|
Maria’s cookies, crushed | 2 packages (4.9 oz) |
Walnuts, finely chopped and toasted | 1 cup |
Chocolate chips | 2 cups |
Heavy cream | 1 cup |
Butter, cubed | 1/3 cup |
Powdered sugar, for dusting | 1/3 cup |
Instructions:
- Prepare Cookies: Crush Maria’s cookies into fine crumbs using a food processor or by placing them in a plastic bag and crushing them with a rolling pin.
- Toast Walnuts: In a dry skillet, toast finely chopped walnuts over medium heat until fragrant, about 3-5 minutes. Stir frequently to prevent burning.
- Melt Chocolate: In a saucepan, combine chocolate chips, heavy cream, and cubed butter over low heat. Stir constantly until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth.
- Combine Ingredients: Remove chocolate mixture from the heat and stir in crushed cookies and toasted walnuts until well combined.
- Shape Salami: Place a large piece of plastic wrap on a flat surface and transfer chocolate mixture onto it. Shape mixture into a log or salami shape, using the plastic wrap to help roll it tightly. Twist the ends of the plastic wrap to seal the log securely.
- Chill and Set: Refrigerate chocolate salami for at least 2-3 hours or until firm.
- Finish and Serve: Unwrap chocolate salami and roll in powdered sugar to coat evenly. Slice salami into rounds and serve.
