‘Why Are We Helping Liz Cheney?’: Trump Tears Into Former GOP Rep

Former Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) responded to President-elect Trump’s threat to imprison members of the House committee that investigated the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, calling his remarks an “assault on the rule of law.”

“The truth is this: Donald Trump attempted to overturn the 2020 presidential election and seize power,” Cheney stated in a statement provided to The Hill.

“He incited an angry mob and directed them to the United States Capitol, where they attacked police officers, breached the building, and disrupted the official counting of electoral votes. Trump watched on television as police officers were brutally beaten and the Capitol was under siege, refusing for hours to tell the mob to leave,” Cheney said.
